PATTERN RECOGNITION — JULIAN ZIGERLI & LUNETTES KOLLEKTION INTRODUCE THEIR 2nd EYEWEAR COLLAB
Berlin eyewear innovators and Swiss fashion designer Julian Zigerli have paired up again for a special trio of intriguingly arty sunglasses made with an unusual technique — matte digital printing on the fronts and temples. The collection complements Zigerli’s collaborative work “Threesome,” created together with Swiss artists Manon Wertenbroek and Christopher Füllemann.
“Threesome” is part fashion collection, part installation, and brings a new creative energy to Zigerli’s fun modern casual designs. The collaboration with Lunettes Kollektion provides the crowning touch to this artistic flight of fancy.
“When we work with Lunettes, we always try to find a new way with things they’d never do for themselves,” said Julian Zigerli. “I always use digital prints in my collections, but in eyewear, people don’t. The prints we chose worked really well on small surfaces.”
The limited-edition capsule collection is based around Lunettes’ Modern Archive Oval frame, and turns this classic contemporary. With their play of matte and shiny, the sunglasses also mirror elements in Zigerli’s fashion designs that pair reflective fabrics and non-reflective prints.
One model features subtle swirls of gold that add a textural effect — the print is derived from images of painted plaster sculpted by Christopher Füllemann, and perfectly matched with blue-green lenses.
The other two deliver a painted pointillist look, actually pulled from Manon Wertenbroek’s photographs. The first has soft dots of gold and silver against a black background, and looks almost like horn. It is finished with a quirky set of differing lenses, one gold, one silver, which provides an almost 3D effect that beguiles the viewer without disturbing the wearer. The light grey version is splotched with blue and dark grey, and has silver lenses. All mirrored lenses bear the affectionate imprint LK♡JZ, and the inside of each frame is matte black.
The eyewear collection made its debut during Berlin Fashion Week during a special vernissage with live performance at gallery EIGEN + ART Lab.
The Threesome LK♡JZ collection will be available in selected shops worldwide, and Lunettes Kollektion in-store and online.
