ETNIA BARCELONA Spring Summer 2019
Highlights from the Avant-Garde & Street Collection
ETNIA BARCELONA is going big this Spring with almost 100 new frame models for the season. The drop is divided into four sub-collections and consists of 74 prescription frames and 24 fashionable sunnies. All models share the fashion eyewear brand’s signature design DNA. True to ETNIA BARCELONA style, materials range from metals to acetate with innovative material blends in some models. Materials are high-grade as always: Acetate is sourced from Mazzucchelli, precision mineral lenses are made by Barberini.
As a major player on the independent eyewear scene, the Catalonia-based label attracts a young crowd interested in art and fashion. The segmentation into four sub-collections Street, Originals, Avant-Gardeand Classic With A Twist serves to offer even more choices for individual consumers. Each was created to make the customer the star. Here’s a look at seven styles from our two favorite collections, Avant-Garde and Street.

Crafted with a love for detail, the Avant-Garde models are aimed at art-minded consumers and range among the design standouts in ETNIA’s SS 2019 collection. As a play on the season’s most important fashion trend, they enhance the entire range with high-quality finishes and exclusive looks. Several models are marked by a futuristic style with clean, purist and androgynous lines.
A true unisex style, the »Akihabara« looks flattering on fashionable women and self-confident men. The bold metal frame features a subtle indention around the double bridge, lending this bold model a highly progressive aesthetic.
The »Shimokita« provides a showcase for ETNIA BARCELONA’s love for detail. Metal enters into a harmonious union with premium Mazzucchelli acetate. We are especially enamored with the nose bridge, where the acetate frame gently embraces the metal crossbar. This double-bridge model makes a strong style statement and may require some confidence on behalf of the wearer. But the payoff is an ultra-modern look for the season.
Crafted for young souls in the Millennial generation, the Street collection is inspired by social media trends and current styles. But that’s not the entire story! TheStreet models also flatter older wearers with a penchant for fashion-forward eyewear. The collection story celebrates the Golden Hour, the best time for shooting photos before the sunset. In this spirit, the color palette follows a vibrant California look. The softly tinted lenses – another design slam dunk for ETNIA – are a neat touch that carries over into the rest of the collection.
Made for the here-and-now, the »Melrose Av.« dazzles with a generous octagonal shape. Thanks to the rounded corners and slim lines, this frame blends harmoniously with the wearer’s face. To make a strong statement against everyday boredom, this is the perfect choice.
We could not resist the »Carlsbad Sun«, another highly modern metal frame. With its blue-tinted lenses, it’s the perfect counterpart to the »Huntington Sun« and shares a distinct feature: The Carlsbad also functions entirely without nose pads.
Malibu Beach Sun
The »Malibu Beach Sun« with its rosé-tinted lenses is an understated and feminine sunglasses style. Seeing the special twist might require a double-take: The classic single bridge is actually a double bridge! Two delicate metal wires run parallel to create the impression of a single bridge for a successful, modern interpretation of a classic.
For the most modern style in our photo shoot from the Street collection, look no further than the »Huntington Sun«. The most striking feature is the rounded shape, subtly flattened around the eyebrow line. Another premium design feature is the three-dimensional nose bridge, true to the motto ‘form follows function’ – especially since the »Huntington Sun« functions entirely without nose pads. Instead, the elegantly rounded bridge provides a secure and convenient fit for the metal frame with that special something.
For anyone looking to get up close and personal with the highlights – and the rest of the ETNIA BARCELONA SS 2019 Collection – there’s a chance at the upcoming edition of Mido tradeshow. Say hello to the upcoming Catalonia-based label at Booth U19 V26 in Pavilion 4.
