Andy Wolf is the first independent eyewear brand from the German-speaking region to convert its acetate collection to the new most sustainable acetate in the industry. To do so, the Austrians have received the ISCC Plus certification and qualified for the Acetate Renew program from the Italian acetate producer Mazzucchelli and Eastman.

Sustainability is an essential pillar of ANDY WOLF. The brand has always taken responsibility for people and nature – be it with local production in Hartberg, Austria, and in the French Jura; with the company’s own wildflower meadow, where eight bee colonies have now found their home; or with the brand-new e-fuel station at the headquarters. With ISCC Plus certification from the global International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) organization, the leading certification system for the sustainability of raw materials and products, Andy Wolf meets the basic requirement for participation in Eastman’s Acetate Renew program. It is necessary to guarantee the origin of the raw materials used. It ensures traceability throughout the supply chain and prevents greenwashing.

The Eastman Projekt

Acetate Renew is the result of an Eastman project that covers the entire production cycle. By recovering waste plastic materials, a powder is obtained that is the raw material for the production of cellulose acetate sheet. Acetate Renew offers the same performance as conventional acetate. It is made from a cellulose diacetate that is 60% bio-based and 40% certified recycled raw material. Compared to the traditional acetate manufacturing process, there is a significant reduction in greenhouse gases and tons of waste do not end up in landfills, but are returned to the product cycle.

Andy Wolf makes a strong statement for sustainability with the introduction of the innovative, recycled material #AcetateRenew. By the end of 2022, 23% of the brand’s entire acetate collection will already be made from the sustainable material. And by 2025, an outstanding 75% of all acetate frames will already be made from Acetate Renew.
