KERL

German Engineering

The KERL eyewear label is comparatively new, but behind it lies several years of research and development. That’s how long it took for materials engineers Dr. Jaromir Ufer and Dr. Johannes Dillinger to perfect carbon fibers for use in eyewear. Now KERL produces at two German locations in collaboration with Markus Moser, the eyewear design expert from Alpenglühn. Through the material innovation Flexarbon, the two engineers have developed their own material, which is 100% manufactured in Germany. KERL combines the art of engineering with design

Screwless and tool-free

Screwless and tool-free, opticians can fit the innovative carbon eyewear perfectly to their customers’ faces. Production takes place in Bernkastel-Kues, between vineyards where the Riesling sprouts. The material Flexarbon makes the strong guy glasses extremely light and flexible. The frames can be perfectly adapted to the shape of the customer’s head – like a tailor-made suit for the face.

“With Kerl Eyewear, we have applied the incredible properties of carbon to eyewear with full consistency and developed the FLEXARBON material.
An in-house developed process for dyeing the dry carbon fibers embeds the colors beneath the surface. The result is extreme durability, completely resistant to environmental influences. Unique surface structure of splayed fibers, for a subtle and elegant appearance.” (Dr. Johannes Dillinger)
