SUSTAINABILITY WORLD PREMIERE:
NEUBAU EYEWEAR PRESENTS EYEWEAR MODELS MADE OF 100% BIO-BASED MATERIAL IN 3D-PRINTING
In 2020 NEUBAU Eyewear redefines the production of sustainable models and thus sets another milestone in the field of sustainability: The Austrian label will in future use a process that produces spectacles from a 100 percent bio-based material – the natural3D – exclusively in 3D printing.
From the Bean to the Glasses
The natural3D is based on an oil extracted from the castor bean plant with which NEUBAU eyewear has been working since 2017 under the name naturalPX. The substance consists of 65 percent castor oil and is used for injection-moulded glasses to produce uniquely light and flexible frames. With natural3D, a completely plant-based material can now be used in 3D printers for the first time. A method that positions new eyewear layer by layer at the forefront of sustainability.
Launching in April 2020 are four optical frames and three sunglasses – including the Special Edition 2020 – made of the 100% bio-based material. NEUBAU eyewear will integrate a mouldable titanium needle into the 3D printing of the models in order to adapt the temples comfortably to the wearer.
Three-Dimensional Sustainability
The use of 3D printing in Eyewear processes has been a total success story for NEUBAU eyewear so far. Even the production process saves resources, as the plastic powder is melted layer by layer by a laser and excess material is reused. As a pioneer in terms of sustainability in the eyewear segment, NEUBAU eyewear has already launched several models with 3D applications in the past – but so far no complete model has been launched. This is about to change in 2020 with these natural3D glasses.

The Austrians combine the fresh spirit of young, creative minds with many years of expertise and sustainable production. They combine the highest quality standards with dynamic progress in technology and design in a single product. Since 2017, NEUBAU eyewear has been using a natural raw material for its flexible and lightweight spectacle frames with naturalPX, 65 percent of which is extracted from the high-quality oil of the castor oil plant. With the natural3D announced for 2020, they go one step further and are the first European brand to produce completely sustainable spectacles using the 3D printing process. To be continued…
