For People with a feel for finesse
Engineers from the Swabia region in Southern Germany have always enjoyed a reputation for groundbreaking innovation. After all, these are the people who brought you Porsche and Mercedes Benz automobiles. For a current example of the typically Swabian combination of craftsmanship and contemporary design, look no further than upcoming eyewear brand REIZ. Hailing from the town of Wernau near Stuttgart, REIZ has been shipping eyewear frames to trendsetters and tastemakers across the globe. And they are about to win yet more fans – with a new sunglasses project to be launched under the sub-label R50 before the end of the year.
For this issue of EYEWEAR magazine, the folks at REIZ sent us two yet-to-be-named prototypes from their new line. From the moment we popped open the high-grade aluminum cases, we knew we were dealing with a contender for this issue’s Editor’s Choice. The only question was, which of the two frames would take the title? After some back-and-forth over a favorite, we ended up awarding the price not to just one set of glasses, but the entire project. Presenting: The Editor’s Choice for this issue of EYEWEAR magazine goes to: “R50 – Projekt 2 – New Metal.”
Crafted from acetate and aluminum, these stylish sunglasses offer a futuristic interpretation on a classic frame construction. Available in stores this December, the project will launch as a limited edition run with only 50 pairs for each color way. Keep an eye out if you want to get your hands on a pair – we know we will.
